stale data

Data that is outdated or otherwise no longer needed by an organization but that continues to reside in storage. More than 50% of an organization’s data could be stale due to data sprawl. Stale data is expensive to store, and might be less frequently monitored, making it potentially vulnerable. Decisions accidentally based on stale data, particularly security-related data, could introduce additional risks.
